Rob and Tia Trueb needed to replace their deteriorating plywood sign, but didn't want to part with its nostalgic charm, hand painted text and local scenery. With some team support, Sam Anderson applied her own perseverance and talent to beautifully recreate the original. The final art will be mounted on a custom cut ACM panel. Look for it soon at the Indianola Country Store. Sam is an Olympic College graduate with a focus on design and freelance illustrator. Find her juggling projects at our Bainbridge Island store. Roger Ambrose is a Pirate... ...known as Lord Ambrose, Baron of Balderdash, Master of the Realm. He is also an award-winning designer in Film and TV, as well as a talented graphic artist. Roger created the Pirate community collectible called Pirate Trading Cards and has designed hundreds of custom Pirate Trading Cards for enthusiastic members of the worldwide Pirate Community, helping each client define his or her own persona and backstory, dramatically set in the Magical Realm. Many of these Pirate Cards have been printed at Sound Reprographics and shipped all over the world -- most recently to France -- establishing Bainbridge Island as a small but significant outpost of pirate culture. Pirate Trading Cards were created as a way to honor the memory of Roger's PirateBride, Capt’n Lynnie (aka DebraLynn Ambrose) who lost her battle with cancer in 2018. DebraLynn had the idea of creating a deck of cards that would show an image of a Historical Pirate on the front, and share their story on the back. She intended the cards to be dramatically read to children at the popular Pirate & Renaissance Faire throughout the year. Some cards also share common Pirate vernacular and other nuggets of pirate lore. Lord Ambrose took DebraLyn's idea one step further when he began to offer these cards to "any pirate with a picture and a backstory." Hundreds of cards, co-created by Roger and many creative and imaginative folk, are now circulating and delighting audiences and pirate enthusiasts of all ages around the world. They are used as gifts, collectibles, or as a treasure to hand out to children and adults alike who share the pirate or mermaid spirit. Like baseball trading cards -- but bigger at 3.5 x 5 inches -- Pirate Trading Cards are a treasure to anyone with an interest in the World of Piracy. Many a Pirate mate, Wench, Mermaid, and Privateer has used them by way of Pirate Business card, including in them their story and contact information and such. PIRATE TRADING CARDS was created to respond to the needs and desire of the Pirating Community for these personalized trading cards. The funds they generate are used to cover the costs of maintaining Capt'n Lynnie's Magicial Realm, a kid-friendly encampment at the Pirate Invasion of Long Beach (CA) each year. The Magical Realm was created in DebraLyn's honor and memory; it was her dream while she was still with us here in the earthly realm. It provides a safe zone for kids to explore the world of Pirates and Mermaids at the faire, and entertains them with storytelling and performances by the talented pirates of the community.
